Kennel Cough

We need help. We picked Lilly up from being boarded for 8 days yesterday, only to find her terribly sick with what we think (and hope) is kennel cough. She's been outside for 24 hours due to the fact that she throws up liquid junk every 30 minutes or so. Did I mention that it is 100 degrees here during the day? The earliest we'll be able to get her into the Vet. would be sometime tomorrow (thanks Memorial Day), and if I could, I would obviously love to give her something to help her out. Do any of you know of a remedy for such a thing? Any info. would be greatly appreciated!

Poor pup! The vet tech in Alaska had us give Reese plain cooked chicken and rice when he would throw up. You may want to consider calling an emergency vet for advice or to see if she needs to be seen today. Good luck.

I don't know anything about kennel cough, but I hope she feels better soon!

Oh man! That is awful! I'm surprised they didn't make her have the kennel cough vaccine before boarding her! I have no idea what kennel cough even is!

Canyon had giardia a couple times in Alaska (after swimming in and drinking gross pond water). Has she been around anything like that? They just gave her antibiotics and she was fine. I hope you get some answers soon!

Wish I could give some great advice to help out but I know nothing about dogs. Maybe try looking online for answers.

We are planning a trip to SA to see my sis sometime in August. We'll have to get together for dinner or something! When is baby #2 due? When do you find out the gender?

Katie--

No, Lilly hasn't been around any water or anything like that.....that we know of. The owners of the kennel have told us many of times that Lilly is their daughters favorite dog in the world. I'm sure I'm just over exaggerating, but it now makes me wonder if she takes her home with her or takes her out to places. I know they run and play with the dogs outside of the kennel, but I'm pretty sure there isn't any large bodies of water near by. Will have to look into that though.

Kristi--

Yes, we will for sure be around in August. We'll have to get together for sure! We could even take the kiddos to Sea World or something along those lines if you're interested.

I'm due Thanksgiving day! I find out in 3 weeks the sex of the baby! I'm leaning towards another girl since I've had all the same symptoms that I had with Salem. I'm indifferent on the sex, but I'm leaning towards wanting another girl! Heck, I already have enough stuff to house 10 of them if I wanted to!

There is a type of kennel cough that is air born, which both my boys got last year. I know it is hard but the best thing to do is keep her calm b/c her throat is very sore/irrotated. I think outside might make it worse so maybe just fix her a bed in the bathroom and make sure she has plenty of water. Make sure that the vet knows what you think is wrong and have the vet come to the car to check on her. You don't want to get other's sick. They will give you some meds to have her on and should recommned you keep her at home for 2 weeks past her last cough. It takes awhile to get over. (Jake had a harder time than Buck.) I would guess in a couple days you will see that she is coughing much less and in 5-7 she should be good. (following the meds)

I wouldn't worry about making a trip to the emergency vet. She really just needs to stay hydrated.
